Football
After a pre-state record of 4–4, the Boys’ Football team won the Minnesota Class 6A state championship on Nov. 21 against Moorhead with a final score of 42–35. Running back Chase Bjorgaard ran 320 yards with six touchdowns while quarterback Mason West ran 184 yards with five touchdowns. The victory marks Edina’s first football state championship since 1978.
Girls’ Swim and Dive
Girls’ Swim and Dive won the Minnesota State High School League Girls AA state championship on Nov. 15, beating rival Minnetonka by over 10 points and bouncing back from being state runner-ups to Minnetonka last year. At sections, sophomore Bobbi Simmons set an EHS record in the 200-meter individual medley, while at state, senior captain Libby McCarthy set records in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle.
Boys’ Basketball
The Edina Boys’ Basketball team won a home game on Dec. 11 against the Benilde St. Margaret Red Knights 86–68. This follows a Dec. 9 loss against the Farmington Tigers 67–75 and a Dec. 2 win against Park Center Pirates 78–45. Their overall record is 2–1.
Girls’ Basketball
The Edina Girls’ Basketball team has a current record of 3–4. They lost to Lakeville South 42–67 on Nov. 28 before winning against St. Paul Como Park during a game the next day 80–52. They beat Farmington 81–73 on Dec. 2 and lost to Providence Academy the following day 74–98. In their most recent games on Dec. 5, Dec. 9, and Dec. 12, they won against Washburn 71–47, lost to Chanhassen 78–81, and lost to Eastview 66–79.
Boys’ Wrestling
The Edina Boys’ Wrestling team won against St. Croix and Rockford on Dec. 11. They lost to Burnsville and Eagan on Dec. 4. Their current record is 2–2.
Girls’ Hockey
The Girls’ Hockey team has had a very successful season so far with a record of 5–3. They won 7–0 against Rogers on Nov. 6, won 2–1 against Proctor/Hermantown on Nov. 15, won 10–0 against Hopkins Park on Nov. 20, won 6–2 against Farmington on Nov. 22, and won 6–0 against Eden Prairie on Dec. 6. Their losses were 2–3 against Holy Family on Nov. 13, 3–4 against Hill Murray on Nov. 25, and 1–5 against Centennial Spring Lake Park on Dec. 11.
Boys’ Hockey
The Boys’ Hockey team has a record of 3–2 thus far in the season. The season began in November with a rough start as the team lost to Moorhead and Maple Grove. However, they turned it around, winning their last three games on Nov. 29, Dec. 4, and Dec. 6 against Holy Family, St. Louis Park, and Benilde-St. Margaret’s with final scores of 8–2, 9–3, and 4–2 respectively.
