Edina High School students gathered at Door 5 to eat tacos and listen to music played by their peers on Sept. 15.
Seniors Anna Bovy and Ella Clerk performed the song “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper and decided to sing on a spur of the moment.
Although they felt some nerves beforehand, when they saw the audience cheering them on and singing with them, they said they felt a bit more comfortable.
“We’re mostly just excited because there’s a great audience that sang with us,” Bovy said. “It’s a great, fun school activity, and is attended by a good community.”
Behind the scenes, Student Council worked hard to organize the event. Junior Emma Huff said they had to coordinate the taco and Kona ice food trucks, contact the stage and sound system, and do all the promotion.
Overall, she said the event was a success.
“We had a lot of people come, we had a great turnout, and a lot of people sang and performed for us, so it’s going really well,” she said.
Freshman Mia Rivera, who attended Tacos and Tunes for the first time, agreed with Huff about the event being a triumph. Rivera participates in a band, and she mentioned how the event was a great way to bring Edina students together, especially music lovers like her.
“It’s really fun because I get to see a lot of people who like music like I do,” she said. “There’s a lot of people with good talent.”
