Students walked out in protest of U.S involvement in the Iran war on Friday morning.
The Instagram account @ehshandsoffiran that announced the protest first posted a poster of the walkout on April 10 with the caption “War kills. Tell your friends to tell their friends!” The walkout began at Door 5 and circled the parking lot in front of the Edina Performing Arts Center. Approximately 20 people joined the walkout.
“All of us are here for different reasons, but I think for me, thousands of people have died for no reason: the majority of which in Iran have been civilians, children, and healthcare workers. [The United States] is decimating a population of people for no reason,” senior and walkout organizer Noah Reardon said.
While they marched, students followed with chants such as “What are we paying our taxes for? We don’t want a war no more!” and “We never wanted it at all, it’s killing kids both big and small.”
Currently, the U.S has agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, and Iran has said that the Strait of Hormuz is “fully open” after access being limited since Feb. 27.
“We need to get out of Iran; we have no right to be there. Regime change is code for instituting American allies that will do whatever we want. Regime change is not something that we have the right to do. It is up to the Iranian people, and [the U.S] is not helping them in any way,” Reardon said.
