Having not released a song since 2009’s “No One’s First and You’re Next”, and not to mention a full album since 2007’s “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank”, it has been confirmed that the indie rock band Modest Mouse is releasing an album sometime in 2014. Unfortunately, the release date is still unknown although Modest Mouse has announced they plan to release it sometime this year.

While Modest Mouse has been very secretive about their new album, certain people have been confirmed to be featured on the new album. According to a tweet by rapper and producer Big Boi, he has reportedly been working with the band. What exactly he has contributed remains unknown, but he tweeted, “Been camped out in the Lab with Modest Mouse all week, workin on the new mouse LP, coolest cats ever. Long Live The Funk”.

According to The Oregonian, Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic will be playing bass on several of the tracks on the new album. Although not willing to talk much about the album, Novoselic commented to Spin Magazine, “It’s pretty edgy. I’ve got my big Gibson bass and a Rat distortion pedal busting out a… this bass riff.” Again, his comments are vague, and only add to the hype and anticipation felt by the fans.

“Since they cancelled their [European] tour last June, I’ve been checking their website everyday, and waiting has been driving me nuts!” said Modest Mouse fan and EHS junior Madi Cooperman. While four tracks have been released including “Poison” and “Lampshades of Fire,” the rest of the upcoming record remains a complete mystery. Until then, Modest Mouse fans eagerly await the new album with high expectations.
