Have you ever felt a gust of wind and seen a blur of motion in the pubs room? That was most likely Zephyrus’s 2023-24 managing editor and resident speed walker Jane Porter.
Concluding her third year on Zephyrus and senior year, Jane credits high school for helping her discover her true passions. “I feel like through being in a lot of different clubs I’ve been able to figure out what I want to do with my life,” Jane said. “I also kinda got to know what I really don’t like, like math.”
Known for being one of Zephyrus’s most avid travelers, Jane has plenty of trip destinations under her belt. “One of my favorite travel memories was two years ago. I went with my sister and her friends on their senior spring break to Florence, Italy. And that was like one of my top three trips ever because we had a beautiful Airbnb that had a rooftop deck that was right next to the Duomo so it was really picturesque,” Jane said. “I haven’t really gone anywhere in Asia at all so I definitely want to do some of that because the culture is so cool and sushi is so yummy.”
Unfortunately, Jane’s immense speed and long-distance travels were stunted by the abduction of her Kia last year. “I had this pink sparkly cowboy hat that I had for so long. And I wish I could take that with me to college but it’s gone now. It was taken with the car,” Jane said.
Jane’s favorite Zephyrus moments were covering the state hockey tournaments. “My favorite memories were going to the hockey tournaments and being able to sit in the press box at Xcel is such a crazy experience. I didn’t think I was someone who could do sports journalism, and then finding out it’s more than just writing about scores and statistics was super cool,” she said. “[Zephyrus] is a lovely end to my day and is a spot where I’ve met a lot of my closest friends. And the snacks are pretty cool.”
This fall, Jane will be studying management and French at King’s College London.
