Hey Harry Potter Fans! I’m here to give you the inside scoop on a game played at Hogwarts called Quidditch.
A game similar to sports played today, with the closest resemblance to football and soccer. Each team starts on the edges of their half of the field at the beginning of the game then they must fly inward to try and score points.
There are three chasers, two beaters, one goalie, and one seeker per side meaning there are fourteen players on the field during the match. The Nimbus 2000 and the Firebolt have proven to be the best working brooms. Every player needs one because this game is played high up in the air.
Think of Chasers as offense, they try to score goals by throwing a quaffle (like a ball) through one of the team’s three opposing hoops. The goalie protects the hoops and tries to stop the quaffle from going through. Ten points are earned if the goalie is unsuccessful.
Beaters are the defensemen; they’re in charge of hitting members of the other team with their beater bats. Arms can get broken and you can even get hit off your broom! The winner of the game almost rests solely on the seeker’s shoulders because they have one of the most important jobs; to catch the snitch. The one who obtains the golden snitch first generally wins the game because the snitch is worth 150 points- and rightfully so! Talent is needed to see this speedy, little, gold flying game piece.
If this game seems like an exciting pastime, consider joining Harry Potter Club. Club Member Annie Malcom, says, “In Harry Potter Club, we are sorted into houses according to our personalities and strengths. Then we do Harry Potter related activities!” One of those activities being this wizardly game.
With just a few changes, this game can be played Muggle style, so grab your friends, find a park, and score “Ten points for Gryffindor!”
