Arguably the best-dressed senior in Zephyrus, whether it be his patchy jeans, Tom Petty t-shirt, or signature black beanie, Griff Pugh’s unique style aligns well with his character: a cool, calm, and laid-back presence.
During his senior year, Griff was Zephyrus’ online manager. “It wasn’t my first choice, but I learned a ton of great skills and ended up loving it,” he said. “I want to thank Zephyrus for shaping me and providing a strong community of friends over the last three years.” Although Griff will be headed out to the East Coast next year for college, the Pugh presence will remain in the pubs room through his younger sister, Lillian Pugh, who will be on art staff next year. He’s happy to pass the torch and excited for her to have her own experience as an artist on staff. “I’m happy that we’re not overlapping, just because I think it’ll be good for both of us. She can establish her own vibe,” Griff said.
Music has played a tremendous role in Griff’s upbringing and personal growth. He has sung in the Minnesota Boychoir since his elementary days and has been fortunate enough to tour and perform across the world. An avid guitar player, he holds his Martin D-18 close to his heart. “It is my baby. If the house is on fire it’s the first thing I’m grabbing,” Griff said. In his free time, he listens to Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, A Tribe Called Quest, and loves discussing all things Grateful Dead.
Besides his love for music, Griff also loves the outdoors, co-founding The Green Crew and involving himself in numerous local environmental efforts. He is currently working on developing “The Young Ike,” a podcast that looks at the intersection between public policy and environmental conservation. Look out, Joe Rogan.
Griff appreciates the three years he’s been on Zephyrus which have given him many fond memories. “I love the opportunities that [it] has given me. I was able to go to Boston for a journalism conference, and work in the press box at the state hockey tournament,” he said.
This fall, Griff will be studying political science at Haverford College.
