As the weather gets colder, snuggling into a blanket, and watching TV seems as inviting as ever. A crop of new shows are coming to network television, and lucky for you, we’ve hand-selected the best and worst of the bunch based on what we know so far.

  • “A to Z” (romantic comedy)
  • Premieres Thursday Oct. 2 at 9/8c (NBC)
  • This new show will showcase the ups and downs, mostly ups, of the crazy relationship of Andrew (Ben Feldman) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti).  Andrew and Zelda (A to Z, get it?) meet at Andrew’s workplace, a matchmaking service no less, and immediately hit it off.  Andrew feels like he’s met Zelda before and soon realizes that he saw her at a party two years ago and remembered thinking “That’s the girl of my dreams.”  However, Zelda lies and says that the girl wasn’t her, which causes serious tension between Andrew and Zelda.  This show definitely has the potential to be a hit in the romantic comedy category.

  • “Forever” (crime-drama)
  • Premieres Monday Sept. 22 at 10/9c (ABC)
  • In this new series, Ioan Gruffudd plays Henry Morgan, an immortal New York City medical examiner. Fitting, isn’t it?  When he isn’t examining the dead, he  becomes the dead, and after he “dies”, he wakes up in a body of water, making for very interesting stories.  When his condition involves him in a case his partner, Detective Jo Martinez (played by Alana De La Garza), is working on, he has some explaining to do.  Sure to attract fans of “Supernatural” and “Bones”, it will be a quality addition to the crime-drama genre.
  • Potential Rating-★★★1/2
  • “Selfie” (romantic-drama)
  • Premieres Tuesday Sept. 30 at 8/7c (ABC)
  • This new series features Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan), an Internet famous Facebook and Instagram addict.  After losing her entire fan base through one mishap, Eliza realizes that she doesn’t have any true friends. So she hires Henry Higgenbottam (John Cho), a marketer, to help her make friends. This show does not seem to have the potential to make it past season one.  It’s the typical nice-boy-transforming-a-mean-girl love story.

  • “How to Get Away With Murder” (drama)
  • Premieres Thursday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c (ABC)
  • Viola Davis stars in this new legal-thriller as Annalise Keating, a hard-as-nails criminal law professor who is revered by her students. However, the biggest lessons her students learn aren’t in the classroom, but in the courtroom. They will do anything to impress their professor and win a desk at her prestigious law firm, even if it breaks the law. Creator Shonda Rhimes is known for her hits “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal”, and this show looks to follow suit. Expect a lot of twists and turns in the plot and a boatload of scandals!  This new series is definitely going to be a hit for the drama fans.
