Ever since they can remember, Nyx Rohweder has loved art. “My friend Ellie taught me how to draw in elementary school,” he said. “I just think that anything is art if you want it to be. It’s all based on interpretation, and that’s what makes it beautiful.”
Despite starting with physical mediums, including painting and drawing, Nyx’s favorite is digital design. “I love bringing all the colors together and being able to tweak it. I want to be an art director, for movies and shows, and stick with digital art,” they said.
At Edina High School, Nyx is an art class connoisseur, taking a total of nine classes across their career. “My favorite [class] was digital design. You can do so many different things, from vector portraits to collages. [Ms. Raskin] supports you through it all,” she said.
Nyx will be attending the Minneapolis College for Art and Design (MCAD), where they’ll major in digital design with a photography minor. “I went on a tour of private colleges in Minneapolis and fell in love with MCAD. The dorms are apartment style, which I love, and the class sizes are tiny,” he said.
Nyx encouraged others to look into similar paths. “I think more people should consider [alternative colleges]. It’s perfect for people […] who don’t want to take generals, and they require internships, so you get experience,” Nyx said. “I can’t wait to get there.”
