On Sept. 6, Edina High School was ranked the fifth best public school in the state of Minnesota by U.S. News and World Report. The rankings were determined after U.S. News analyzed data from nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. The publication then determined specific rankings by analyzing schools whose students had outstanding outcomes above expectations in math, reading, and science state assessments, earned qualifying scores in an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.
Troy Stein, Edina High School’s activities director and an assistant principal at the school, was thrilled after hearing news of EHS’s recent rankings. “I am proud to work with such a collaborative staff at EHS. In addition, it is an honor to serve our dedicated students that strive to perform at the highest levels,” Stein said.
Stein attributes much of Edina’s success to a system that strives to serve all students. “We have a knowledgeable staff that can push all students to find their possibilities and thrive. Our staff love what they do. In addition, if students struggle, the care and concern for student success is there to help them succeed,” Stein said.
Jenn Carter, another assistant principal at EHS, was also excited after learning of EHS’s new ranking. “I think it is a great reflection of our students, our staff, and our community, and the programs and changes we have made. It has really been fun to see the way the school has evolved over time, and it is really exciting to be in a time where we have grown so much and will only continue to grow together,” Carter said.
Going forward, Carter believes that EHS must continue to emphasize the needs of its students and staff. “We need to have an open line of communication between students and staff. While no two days are the same, we need to constantly be looking at the voices of our stakeholders to help us shape our daily decisions,” Carter said.
