DECA Students Teach Second Graders Business Basics

If you were wondering why the DECAfé was closed on Monday, it is because a group of second graders visited, wanting to obtain some advice.

The second grade students are coming up with their very own imaginary businesses. The teacher from Countryside asked, “What makes this place [DECAfé] a good business?” The kids came up with answers ranging from the delicious smell of the cookies to the kindness of the school’s café workers.

DECA students explained that DECA is a business class, and that the DECAfé helped give students a hands on experience with running a business, and pay for the cost of the DECA competition.

They also got an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, seeing the inventory of the shed, and hearing about some upcoming and past DECAfé promotions, such as the Underclassmen Rise cookie promotion.

The eager students were excited to learn all of the different working parts of the DECAfé, and were inspired to add some similar touches to their own businesses.
