When walking through Edina during October, you’ll find more treats than tricks. Halloween-themed activities are abundant in our community to connect families and friends together through the love of the season.
On Oct. 25, Wooddale Church hosted a Trunk or Treat. Car trunks were decorated with various themes. One resembled Candyland, with fake lollipops and cupcakes all over it, while another featured an evil scientist lab with caution tape and warning signs. Different games were set up such as hopscotch and a hockey game with mini figures. Police officer Nick Donahue, who was invited to entertain the kids, brought a SWAT truck that kids were interested in because of the flashing blue and red lights. Donahue said these events are extremely important to bring the community together.
“It is good to come out and share some smiles and laughs,” he said.
Similar to the free community event Wooddale Church put on, another Oct. 25 event was the Halloween Fun Run hosted at the EHS lower track. For the Fun Run, families dressed up in costumes and ran together.
This event was hosted by the Edina Give and Go’s student board. Edina Give and Go is an organization in which Edina community members work to raise money so that everyone can have equal opportunity for arts, athletics, and extracurriculars.
According to Edina Give and Go, the Fun Run is a way for community members of many ages to connect with each other, the youngest runner being four years old.
Edina Give and Go board member Sarah Weller believes Edina should have more events like this one.
“I think this is exactly what Edina should be about: bringing people together at all ages doing something fun,” Weller said.
