On Monday, October 8, author Peter Geye visited Edina High School to talk to an audience of students about his life as an author. He shared his personal story about how he became a writer and said it was “due to a really good English teacher.” He talked about his upcoming new book, The Lighthouse Road, and left the students with the indelible phrase that “books are powerful.”
Mr. Geye’s visit was arranged by Sara Swenson, media specialist at EHS. Ms. Swenson said, “My favorite statements were his connections about how being a good reader makes him a good writer and how writing is something that must be done every day.”
His visit was part of the annual Spenser Somers series, a program established in memory of Spencer, a former EHS student who died of cancer at the age of 19
