Why Pit Orchestra is Awesome
Every fall I look forward to two things: Thanksgiving and the Edina High School fall musical. I love going and watching the musical, and this year I got the opportunity to be a part of the process. No, I don’t have the voice of an angel, and I can’t dance to save my life, and if you need to get your technology fixed, don’t come to me. But I play violin, so as a senior, I decided to play in the pit orchestra.
Here are some reasons why being in pit orchestra is a great way to get involved in the theater program at Edina High School.
-
You get to hang out with your orchestra friends, bandies, and Paul Kile for hours on end. Yay for bonding.
-
Food. Let’s just say that bandies and orchdorks are good at baking and purchasing snacks that we may or may not get to eat in the pit.
-
The actors and actresses are incredibly talented and we get to go to all seven performances.
-
You learn the musical so well that you could practically go up and perform it. Oh wait, I can’t sing though…
-
The repertoire is different from anything else you get to play in class at school.
If you’re a musician who’s looking for a way to get involved in theater at Edina, consider doing pit orchestra next year!

I enjoyed reading this because I knew very little about orchestra before so it was nice to learn about something new. I now have a good understanding of what orchestra is all about. A suggestion for a future article could be to write about how orchestra and band differ.
