What’s the Best Worst Movie?
In the era of “Sharknado”, “Face/Off”, and Nicolas Cage, our generation has become one that appreciates nothing more than a good bad movie. Whether it’s the cheesy acting, horribly cliché plot, or terrible special effects, there has always been a place in our hearts for terrible movies. Bad movies have become a popular trend among teens, and is rising, especially with services such as Netflix offering a large assortment of films of this kind. When it comes to the best bad movies, however, nothing trumps the 1990 cheap horror film “Troll 2”.
“Troll 2”, an intended horror movie, features the protagonist Joshua, a little boy who tries to stop his family from being eaten by goblins. That’s right, there are no actual trolls in this movie. The makers of the film decided to market the film as “Troll 2” in order to gain viewership of those who enjoyed the film “Troll”, which is completely unrelated to “Troll 2”. So, basically, in this context, “Troll 2” is a sequel to a film that doesn’t exist.
In “Troll 2”, Joshua is taken to the mysterious town of Nilbog on a family vacation (that’s right, Nilbog is just goblin spelled backwards). Here they encounter odd townspeople who all have a mysterious four leaf clover shaped patch of skin on their face. In this town, Joshua is contacted by his dead grandfather who warns him not to eat the any of the food in the town. Meanwhile, we discover all the townspeople are goblins in disguise, and are trying to feed Joshua’s family special food to turn them half-plant half-human (the favorite food of goblins of course).
The dialogue is incredibly cheesy featuring a sing-along to “row, row, row your boat”, “they’re eating her… and then they’re going to eat me”, and many other awkward conversations.
The troll costumes are even more memorable. The trolls are short people running around in plastic masks, and burlap sack outfits, topped off with wooden spears as weapons. “Troll 2” is such a hit, in fact, that a documentary was made about it featuring how terrible it is. It features where the actors are now, and the film’s cult following. I have never laughed so much in my life, and you will not regret seeing this movie. I can guarantee that you will be laughing about it for days.
Patricia Leach really loves "That's So Raven". In fact, she loves it so much that she requested that this be included in her bio:
