To kick off this year’s student athlete features, we’ve chose Varsity goalie, Tanner Morrison, as a player to watch. Check out the interview below to learn all the juicy details about what makes this soccer player tick.
Q: Is this your first year on varsity? If so, what have you noticed the difference between varsity and JV is?
A: No, I was on varsity last year so I haven’t been on JV but it sounds like the biggest difference would be the intensity of the practices.
Q: When did you first know you wanted to be a goalie?
A: I first knew I wanted to be a goalie when I would try to make sliding saves with my body, back when we couldn’t have goalies.
Q: Why did you choose to be a goalie?
A: I chose to be a goalie because nobody else wanted to be a goalie on my team, but now I’m glad I chose this position.
Q: Do you have any special pregame/postgame rituals? If so, what are they?
A: I always shower before every game. It feels refreshing and puts me in a good mood.
Q: What is your favorite pump up song?
A: “Victory Lap” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Just the name of the song makes me want to win.
Q: What’s your favorite junk food?
A: I’m really a candy corn guy, so I get excited when Halloween comes around.
Q: Do you play any other sports?
A: I played for the 9th grade basketball team this year, and looking forward to House League next year. Hoping to bring home the trophy for my city.
Q: Do you have any secret hobbies?
A: Not really a secret hobby for me, just trying to keep up with the ladies and hang out with friends.
Q: What was the scariest thing about coming to the high school this year?
A: The scariest thing for me was not knowing anyone in my classes or not knowing where to go. It’s a lot better than I thought it would be, and I’m having a good time.
Q: Do you have anything else you would like to add?
A: Thank you for your time, go Hornets.
