Thoughts on the Amazon Prime Air
“Amazon plans to deliver purchases via drones.” Um, excuse me. Barf.
Even though the droid is actually kind of cute, are you kidding me?! This is ridiculous that anyone even thought to invent this. I love my UPS person, and I don’t ever want them to leave me. I enjoy hearing the doorbell ring and interacting with another human being (who generally has dog treats) that can smile and talk. BECAUSE HUMAN INTERACTION IS A BASIC NEED.
I don’t know about you, but after reading the words, “unmanned aerial vehicles by 2015,” I got a weird, icky, sloshy feeling in my stomach and I felt the need to drink some apple juice because I was uncomfortable. I pray that drones never fly through the skies. I’m going to be honest. Drones are one of my biggest fears. So are the Droid phones because of the chilling way they say “Droid” in the commercials which may or may not have given me nightmares. I mean, you can’t just have a person then pan down to show robot arms with all the wires as if the people weren’t really real. I believe I vomited (not actually) because that was a terrible experience.
I believe these droids aren’t the smartest or most effective way to use the technology we have. Plus, they might be harmful to the environment. How much plastic will the yellow delivery containers use? Will they be recyclable? Will there be an Amazon box pick up so they can be reused over and over again? Although it’s easy to overlook these important details and fantasize about machines taking over the earth, it’s crucial that we look at the cost of production and what resources will be used.
Most importantly, do we really need to receive things thirty minutes after we order them? I think not. These droids and accessibility might lead to a trend of impulse buys and impractical purchases. I mean, two day shipping is plenty fast enough for 97% of the population and, what’s life without the thrill of waiting for snail mail (which is quite quick now) but still, the anticipation is part of the fun.
