Syd Raley is ready to make the transition from Edina High School to the big stage and step into the spotlight of college theater.
A thespian at EHS, Syd knew that continuing their passion for theater was important to them in their college search. So, when the time came to make the important decision on where to go to school, Luther College in Decorah, Iowa was the clear choice. “The theater program at Luther is extensive, and there are literally so many opportunities to be involved. They have an incredible music program [that’s] nationally ranked,” Syd said.
One of the things Syd is most looking forward to is a performing arts festival that takes place each year at Luther. “[It’s] a 24-hour play festival where you are given the script and cast to stage and learn everything and then perform it in under 24 hours. And it’s absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to do it,” they said.
Outside of school, Syd is a member of their church’s youth and adult choir and works at a local pizza shop.
Surprisingly, Syd is not planning on becoming a paramedic, despite the national recognition they received when they jumped from the drive-through window of a McDonald’s and saved the life of a choking customer. “I think the admins probably got a chuckle out of that upon seeing that on my application,” Syd said.
