On April 4, Edina High School’s Repertory, Sinfonia, and Varsity Orchestra united to perform a themed concert entitled Ro-So-Vo. Being an updated version of the Pajama concert where students would previously perform nursery rhymes, students participating in Ro-So-Vo are tasked with choosing a new theme every year, this year’s being water.
Orchestra Director Nick Gaudette included songs from popular movies to channel this theme. “Students really like playing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’…and then we decided to bring on a couple of other pieces,” Gaudette said. “Once the theme materializes then we start honing in on what are other pieces we can play [with it].”
Ro-So-Vo’s theme and technical elements make it one of the most exciting concerts the Orchestra perform. “[Ro-So-Vo has] a little bit of a story and there’s a lot more acting compared to the other concerts.” Symphonia Orchestra sophomore Archimedes Rebrov said. Additionally, because Ro-So-Vo is more of a student-driven project, students have more opportunities to take on various technical jobs.
“You get to choose music that you really like to play and you always have a theme and can play with your friends,” Varsity Orchestra sophomore Ethan Liao said.
