“Is your dad a baker? Because you’ve got a nice set of buns,” said sophomore Jay Pederson. Edina High School students know plenty of effective pick up lines, perfect for making the first move.
Senior Meghan Burley recommended, “Are you a parking ticket? Because you’ve got fine written all over you.” Sophomore Joey Birt suggested, “If I owned McDonald’s and could name a burger after you, I would call it the McLovin.”
Making the first move can be intimidating, but someone has to do it. Pick up lines can be a great way to break the ice and can easily be turned into a flirtatious game of who has the worst one. Unfortunately, these moves aren’t guaranteed to get you the girl or guy you were crushing on. Rejection can be hard to take, but it happens to everybody. Need help learning how to deal? Here are some classy options.
If you’re a guy and you’ve been rejected, fear not. We won’t judge you for shedding a few tears, just keep it to a minimum or else things might get weird. When you’re chilling with your bros later on, it’s all right to make it seem like you totally rejected her, not the other way around. Receive your fair share of congratulatory back slaps with masculine grunts and fist bumps. By this time, you might even have yourself convinced that you in fact did reject her. If this is the case, our work here is done. But if you’re still having some hard feelings, take junior Jake Meyers’ advice and “eat ice cream.” That always seems to do the trick for us.
Are you a girl who has been rejected? Aside from the obvious solutions involving sappy romantic comedies and never-ending boxes of chocolate, you can take sophomore Estelle Bain’s advice and “eat ice-cream – cookie dough. And pickles. If you haven’t gained ten pounds from a break-up, you haven’t lived.” Fellow sophomore Sydney Paugh advised that you “surround yourself with people who care about you and look at the positive side of things.” Remember, intensive crying can dry out the skin and leave eyes puffy and red, so instead of a sob session, we recommend a tub of Ben and Jerry’s, the two guys who will never let you down.
Finally, remember sophomore Eliza Nolan’s advice about rejection, and “try not to take it personally. You have to feel confident about yourself. Don’t let it bring you down.” With this mindset and these tips, you’ll be feeling better in no time!
