The glory days of the Looney Tunes has come and gone but thanks to reruns being on while we were kids their antics live on. But there is more to the beloved show than meets the eye.
- It’s spelled Looney TUNES not Looney Toons.
- Before being called Looney Tunes, the series was titled Merry Melodies
- The US Marine Corps made Bugs Bunny an honorary Marine Master Sergeant during World War II.
- It’s Porky Pig, not Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck or Tweety Bird, who is actually the oldest Looney Tunes character.
- Pepé le Pew is a parody of Pépé le Moko from the famous French film by the same name.
- The Looney Tunes have won five Oscars and were nominated another twenty-one times
- The song “I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat” sung by Tweety Bird and Sylvester peaked at No. 9 during a seven week stay on the billboard charts in 1950.
- Contrary to popular belief, Wile E. Coyote does manage to catch the Roadrunner in one episode though he is dumbfounded by his success and holds up a sign that reads: “Okay, wise guys, you always wanted me to catch him- Now what do I do?”

Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies are literally my childhood favorite cartoons along with Tom and Jerry! The 8 fun facts shown here are for sure a fun read. I love reading about the nostalgic entertainment of my childhood, as an adult now in 2023 (31 years old), those cartoons mean a lot to me, even more and sadly, in my honest opinion, cartoons today are good yes, but they can not outweigh what Harman, Schlesinger and Ising along with the other outstanding crew behind Looney Tunes had created. In my conclusion, Looney Tunes are kind of like a passed down heirloom given by my parents who themselves watched as kids and are as of today almost 70 years old but for my visual enjoyment It is an heirloom that is literally timeless and forever cherished (despite the shows inappropriate flaws of the past time, those day’s were considered a different time compared to todays logic), Regardless, I apologize for making such a long and dragged out comment but I do hold a lot of love for the cartoon, it’s one that makes me feel happy or better, if I’m bored, down and out, feeling ill or just to watch a most favorable episode or two to reminisce on the good times watching them with my parents. Again, my apologies for my long comment, but I do appreciate the opportunity to express my appreciation and I hope to see more articles like this! Best blessings to you and yours!
