Lex Li: Features section editor and avid photographer for Zephyrus. During her four years in Zephyrus, she has made many fond memories with all the staff members.
When reflecting on her Zephryus career, one of Lex’s favorite yearly assignments is photographing at Homecoming Coronation. Working at the coronation all four years made her realize how special school spirit is, especially during her senior year. “I remember being a freshman, it was so hot, and I was just sitting there and was thinking, ‘Those seniors are so rowdy,’ and now that I am a senior, I am so glad that we were rowdy, you know? It was finally our time to scream and yell,” Lex said.
She has always been a passionate leader for all the new staff on Zephyrus, making sure they aren’t intimidated by the “rowdy” seniors. She is always willing to take underclassmen under her wing and make staff members of all grade members feel like one community.
One of Lex’s favorite memories on Zephyrus is the trip to Philadelphia, where she attended a Gordon Parks lecture about the camera as a weapon against injustice that she “thought was [a] really cool and powerful presentation.”
Leaving Edina High School, Lex is grateful for all her teachers but wants to give a big thanks to the science department. All of the teachers there have helped her persevere through the challenging classes. “I really appreciate the science department, because all of those teachers have a great sense of humor,” Lex said.
She is going to continue her academic journey at University of Wisconsin-Madison, planning to major in Psychology and potentially pursue the pre-med track. To continue growing her photojournalism skills, she is planning to be on the Daily Cardinal, Madison’s newspaper. To continue to find community in Madison, she is planning to join many clubs, rush for a sorority, and have her dog on campus to accompany her on her college life.
A highlight of Lex’s day has always been Zephyrus, and she will miss it when she goes to college. “Zeph has always been a good way for me to wrap up my day because regardless of how my day had been going, it was always nice to come back to the community that I built myself into the last four years,” she said. The community in Zephyrus will deeply miss Lex’s outgoing personality and clever ideas for print.
