Is sex gross?
“Of course not!” said sophomore JT Nevers as he winked jokingly.
Not everyone can deal with sex in such a frivolous manner. Do sex and love go hand in hand? Do you have to wait until marriage? These questions have sparked debates worldwide, but when it comes down to it, it’s your choice whether it’s an appropriate time to hanky panky. Beliefs on sex, or shall we call them, sexual philosophies, differ from person to person, not from clique to clique or school to school. So EHS, what’s your sexual philosophy?
When it comes to sex, senior James Lettow has strong beliefs on waiting until marriage.”Sex and marriage [go hand in hand], not love and sex,” he said.
Senior Christian Woodley added, “My strong Christian faith has been an influence on why I believe in waiting [until marriage]. I think marriage and commitment to each other is the only way to experience sex without any drawbacks.”
While some students are deciding to wait until marriage, others are having sex over break and after school.
An anonymous senior said she has been having sex since sophomore year. “I think sex is a big deal, and you should have it with someone you really care about,” she said. “I wouldn’t have sex with [just] anyone,” she continued. “Maybe as a sophomore or a junior, I would have had sex without any reason, but now I would only have it with someone I care about.”
Her sexual philosophy changed through experience, as it does for many. Let’s not forget that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon decided to wait until marriage until they had sex. They both had sex before they met each other, but they wanted things to be different for their relationship. Of course, they only dated for a few months before getting married, but that’s a different story.
Some students take a hands-off approach. “If there’s mutual consent, then I’m okay with whatever floats your boat” said senior Will Freeman.
Sexual philosophies are a very touchy subject, so try to let people express their opinions without telling them they’re completely wrong. Freeman’s idea of staying out of others’ business is excellent advice. Be safe, everyone!
