Senior and Zephyrus section editor Katelin Seward will be turning from a Hornet to a Bulldog post graduation this year. Majoring in political science at Butler University, she is ready to take her first step into her future governmental career. Outside of Zephyrus, Katelin spends her time involved in Student Senate, the Legislative Action Committee, and youth church groups.
Katelin’s most memorable moments from being an Edina High School student and a staff writer on Zephyrus were finding good friendships and a stable foundation.
“I’m going to miss the community,” Katelin said. “My favorite Zeph memory was probably freshman year when I first met Valerie, Karissa, and Lynn-Clara, and then probably Zonding.”
Throughout her high school career, Katelin has learned more about herself, including what color she would be.
“I think I would be blue… actually, I’d be periwinkle because it’s very calming and aesthetic,” she said.
Looking into her future at Butler, she’s ready to start anew and, of course, have an aesthetic dorm.
“I’m most looking forward to meeting new people, preparing for my future career in government, and trying new things,” Katelin said. “[My dorm] is definitely going to be a coastal vibe, with light blues and pinks, just a very cottage-coastal feel.”
Katelin’s future at Butler is one she’s excited for, though she’s going to miss Edina and the familiarity of Minnesota as a whole.
“I’m going to miss my family and just knowing my way around town,” she said.
“I’m not going to know any of the cities. So it’s going to feel weird trying to learn a whole new state,” she said.
However nervous Katelin is for her new journey, she still very much looks forward to different scenery and a bit more autonomy.
“I’m really excited to be learning in a new place,” Katelin said. “I wanted to go somewhere outside of Minnesota just so I could have a feeling of independence.”
“If I stayed in one place for too long, I would not be able to push myself to my full potential,” she said.
With the new path that she is going on, Katelin is really excited to take advantage of all the opportunities that will be available to her at Butler.
“I knew that I wanted to study there, especially with their amazing political science program and their semester in Washington, D.C. that I really want to apply for,” she said.
Now Katelin will set off on a new part of her life, and from the looks of it, she’s ready to take on whatever is thrown at her.
