At Edina High School, many new fall clothing trends have started to enter the building, incorporating new ideas and styles. Throughout fashion history, autumn has stood out as a fashion icon for different designs and clothing articles.
According to Vogue, fashion tends to reflect on past autumn fashion trends. In the 2000s, jeans dominated the fashion field during the colder months, jean jackets, jean dresses, and more. As well as jeans, leather was flooding the fashion magazines and taking over fall garments. For men, many lengthy sweaters and neutral colors have been staples, as well as Nike and adidas.
For students at EHS, sweaters and jeans circulate the building from brands such as American Eagle, Hollister, and PacSun. For men, athletic sweatshirts and sweatpants as well as some flannel shirts and long sleeves are exploding garments for fall, especially from the brands Under Armour and sports-wear from Nike.
Fall styles are one thing, but the sales the primary fall brands make are astronomical. As well as just clothing articles, shoes have also been a prominent addition to the “fall look.” Just this past year, the shoe brand UGG reached 1.9 billion dollars in sales, along with the (largely fall) clothing line, Talbots, which reached its peak revenue in 2023 which totaled up to 1.3 billion dollars.
EHS students reflect on the success of these brands. Junior Giada Ferraro said she plans to follow these fall fashion trends with short UGG boots and knitted sweaters.
“I feel inspired to wear [those pieces of clothing] by looking at what others wear at school as well as what I see online,” Ferraro said. “I plan to incorporate the short UGG boots as well as some cropped knitted sweaters into my fall wardrobe.”
Edina staff are also inspired by fall fashion trends.
“I feel [influenced] for my fall wardrobe by Pinterest,” English teacher Haley Guevara said. “The [reason why] fall is the easiest season to dress for is because there’s more of a [variety] of textures; including knits and leather with something plush.”
