“In 8th grade I really wanted a job, so I just kept going back into [Patisserie] Margo’s about once a week wondering if there were any openings,” said sophomore Estelle Bain. Her tenacity paid off.
Bain has worked at Patisserie Margo for about two years. Located on Gus Young Lane, right off of Highway 100, Patisserie Margo makes everything from cakes to scones. “I just really love working and I feel like I accomplished something that day. I also enjoy the people there, everyone is so friendly and interesting!” Bain explained. The best part of her job? “Getting to take home extra muffins, scones, croissants, cookies, [and] breads!” Bain said.
Junior Claire Madden has been working at AMC Southdale for about six months. She likes her job because of “all the people there” along with “making pretzels.” To get her job, she applied online. Madden explained that her favorite part of her job is “creeping on all the people from our school that come to movies. Particularly all the new couples. It’s some good hot gossip.”
Will Burke, a junior, works at TC Running Company. He’s been working there since August of last year. His job is to “basically help people find running shoes and apparel.” Getting his job was easy. “I talked to my [cross country] coach and he knows the owner so I just walked in and he said ‘when do you want to start?’” Burke explained. Being a runner, Burke enjoys his job because “I’m around runners all the time and I get to see the new shoes that are out and all the running stuff.”
Remember, before you pick up an application; make sure it’s something you really want to do. It will make your job much more enjoyable in the long run.
