As a freshman, Nora McConnell made the Edina Girls’ Varsity Hockey team, and ever since, she hasn’t looked back.
In December of this year, Nora announced her commitment to play hockey at St. Olaf College. “I am very fortunate to continue playing a sport in college,” Nora said. Making the decision was a long process for McConnell, but she utilized the role models in her life to help her along the journey. “My dad has always been my biggest mentor because he encourages me to challenge myself. He is always pushing me to be at my best and learn for the knowledge and not the grade,” Nora said.
In addition to pushing herself on the ice, Nora utilized Edina High School’s rigorous curriculum opportunities to push herself to a new level. From the classroom to the hockey rink, she has always set the bar higher and higher. “[EHS’s] curriculum and teachers have challenged me academically and mentally throughout the last four years. Working through adversity, I have grown a lot as a student and built a strong work ethic that I will continue to use throughout and into college,” Nora said. Going into the fall, she hopes to build new friendships and grow academically and athletically throughout her college career. “I am very excited to get to know my new teammates, make new friends, and learn new things in my classes,” Nora said.
