As Jack Goepfrich wraps up his final year as a varsity captain and standout swimmer for the Edina Boys’ Swim and Dive team, his accomplishments reflect an unwavering commitment to the sport. “I started swimming when I was eight years old. Growing up, I always dreamed of representing the high school team,” he said.
This year’s state meet was the highlight of Jack’s career. After coming in second to Eden Prairie the previous year, winning the state championship became the Edina’s team’s primary goal.
Jack earned second place in the meet for the 200 and 100-yard freestyle, securing an automatic All-American spot with his 200-yard time and All-American consideration for his 100-yard time. Additionally, Goepfrich was also part of the team that came first in the 200-yard free relay, receiving another automatic All-American spot for his performance. Reflecting on his journey, Jack credits his coaches and teammates for their support and guidance. “My teammates who had much more experience at competing at high levels of the sport gave me a lot of advice when it came to my technique and pushed me hard day in and day out,” he said.
As he looks back on his achievements—a four-time All-American Athlete, two-time All-State Swimmer, and holder of a team relay record—Jack is grateful for the opportunities swimming has provided him. “It’s been an incredible journey,” he said. Jack will continue his swimming pursuits at Amherst College this fall.
