To welcome returning and incoming students to the 2023-2024 school year, Edina High School hosted its annual Get Connected Day on Aug. 24. The event allowed incoming students to familiarize themselves with the new environment, while also providing resources for returning students to help them smoothly transition back to the high school setting.
Get Connected Day offered a variety of activities to students as high schoolers checked out devices, obtained athletic passes and parking permits, registered for the PSAT, took student ID photographs, and signed up for certain extracurriculars in preparation for the start of school.
“[Get Connected Day] made me more confident that I’ll be able to meet people here and feel connected, especially with all the clubs,” incoming freshman Eleanor Schenk said.
Additionally, students were able to walk through their schedules and learn to navigate the school, with teachers available for drop-in visits. This gave students the chance to introduce themselves before the start of the school year. For Schenk, the open house setting of Get Connected Day allowed her to acclimate to the new environment.
“I felt a lot better about getting back to school by meeting all my teachers, [which was] a great aspect that we didn’t have at the middle school,” Schenk said.
Acting as a preparation day for all students, Get Connected Day delivered a reintroduction to the school setting, and senior Aura Bafna highlights the beneficial aspects of the event. “It’s even in the name Get Connected Day, and I just think [the event] is a good way to connect with people, teachers, and your community overall,” Bafna said.
