Many Edina High School students are anime-crazy. The EHS Anime club consists of about 30 active members. The avid anime fans meet almost every Friday after school (unless there is no class that day) from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m.. The club enjoys participating in cosplay contests, doing arts and crafts, and of course, watching anime. They also take intriguing trivial quizzes, have amazing art competitions, and eat food.
“Most of time we take suggestions on what anime everyone wants to watch, then we take a vote. The top three shows are the ones we watch that day” said EHS senior Kati McCullough, one of the heads of the club.
The cosplay contests have different categories for costumes, and the best dressed in each category receives a fun anime-related prize.
Interested in anime but not sure whether or not you have enough experience to participate in the activity? Don’t worry. “You don’t have to be an avid fan of anime to join the club. It’s perfect for beginners because we watch a wide variety of genres, so it’s easy for someone new to find their favorite shows,” said EHS senior Brianna Overlin, also a leader of the club.
Upcoming events to look forward to in the anime club include a Halloween costume contest. “We’ll have different categories for costumes, and the best dressed in each category will get a prize. After the contest, we’ll watch spooky anime to stay in the Halloween spirit,” said McCullough.
“And on Nov. 14th, we plan for an arts and craft day,” said Overlin.
