1.) Seniors don’t hate you.
If anything, they just want you to move faster in the hallway.
2.) Now is the time to try new activities!
After your sophomore year, you will have already completed half of your high school career. If you’re even slightly interested in any extracurricular clubs (Hip-Hop, 212, etc.) or classes (DECA, Zephyrus, etc.) then you might as well try them now. Most students find themselves wishing they had started their extracurriculars earlier, so make sure to check out the activities fair on September 12th where there will be information on all clubs and activities, as well as free candy.
3.) The Decafe is cool.
I’m not sure why, but as a sophomore I thought I was too cool for the Decafe. Looking back, I realize that I’m not that cool, and that the Decafe is actually really cool. If you haven’t been there yet, it’s by the language arts classrooms and the cafeteria. If you have a study hall, work time during class, or a blended class, you should check it out. It’s cool.
4.) There isn’t really anything on your shirt.
Most students at Edina High School share one common experience. At some point, our principle, Doc Lock, may approach you. You might get all nervous and jittery because he’s the principal and all, and then he’ll say “What’s that on your shirt there?” You, being a nervous sophomore will look down at your shirt, and Doc will flick your nose with his finger. Then you’ll giggle awkwardly and feel gullible. Don’t fall for it. I promise you there’s nothing on your shirt.
5.) You should avoid the skinny hallway at all costs.
The skinny hallway is the hallway behind the cafeteria between the English/History hallway and the Science hallway. I remember once, my sophomore year, I was headed toward English when out of nowhere I found myself caught and unable to move in between two upperclassmen that I didn’t know. I looked around and noticed that it wasn’t just me. In fact, the entire hallway had become so packed with students that nobody could move. I broke a sweat and desperately reached my arm out to my friend who was wedged between a hockey player and a Bandie. We were all stuck in the skinny hallway as the bell rang, and around 40 students were late to class that day. The smart ones only got there on time because they crawled on top of the lockers in the hallway to get to class. The skinny-ness of the hallway, combined with the fact that it’s where the lunch line extends into (how convenient…) makes it a lot harder to walk through. Avoid the skinny hallway if you want to get to class on time.
