Edina DECA visits NYC
Edina’s very own DECA officers and staff traveled to New York City this past weekend. Students and staff alike are very pleased with the experiences they encountered on this trip. “The experience was incredible, and unbelievably fun,” said senior Julia Barnett, one of the DECA officers. While in New York, they got to tour numerous places like the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty as well as attend business seminars. “I learned how comprehensive business really is and how you have to take everything into consideration at all times in an all encompassing way,” remarked Barnett.
Alicia Savino, one of the teachers for DECA, accompanied the six officers to NYC. She agreed with Barnett that “the experience was really fun.” Of course, Edina DECA wouldn’t take a trip to New York without a purpose, right? While they saw the city from the eyes of tourists, they also got to experience the business world firsthand. Savino remarked, “[It will] open the kids’ eyes of the business opportunities that exist in the world as a whole, seeing the multi-cultural environment that New York City offers as well as the different avenues of business.”
Of the eight officers, six went to New York. These six were Annie Engen, Matt Woolsey, Julia Barnett, Lulu Conner, Weston Hirschey, and Elisabeth Cavanagh. The trip to NYC is annual, and will continue to be offered to future DECA officers.
