In June 2012, Colonial Church closed on the sale of their land to The Waters Senior Living of Edina. The church accepted $1.85 million in exchange for 6.5 acres of their property, located at 6300 Colonial Way in Edina.
According to Annette Anderson, a member of the Church Council, Colonial is planning on using some of the proceeds to help fund one of their projects, called Innové, which Anderson described as a “grant entrepreneurial program.” Anderson went on to further explain the program, saying that Colonial is “planning on using some of the money to encourage social entrepreneurs. They don’t have to be a member of the church, but they do have to be willing to affirm the Apostles’ Creed.”
The community is set to open in the fall of 2013, and construction is already underway.
According to The Waters of Edina website, “The Waters of Edina will provide a full spectrum of living options that include senior living with services, assisted living, memory, and Alzheimer’s care, and enhanced care.”
In contrast to some senior living communities that ask residents for payments upfront, the Waters of Edina website remarks that Waters “offers flexibility with a month-to-month rent and a one-time nominal community fee.”
Diane Bjorkman, whose mother is on the waiting list for the Waters, is a resident of Edina who owns Gentle Transitions, a company that coordinates moves for seniors in the Twin Cities. Bjorkman described the convenience of living close to the Waters, saying “I know from experience that proximity plays a key role in being able to see a parent often and also being available when crisis arise.”

At first living in this neighborhood of Edina, I was not happy with the initial approval of this project, however now that I see the form it is taking and the positive effects it can have on the community I am excited for the new opportunities facilities like this are bringing to our community.
