Dear Readers,
These days, there are countless ways to express your gratitude. Facebook, Twitter, and email all offer easy ways to thank Aunt Irma for the, uh, festive holiday sweater. Yet somehow, among all these social networking sites, the handwritten thank you note still triumphs with its elegance and ability to somehow never go out of style. Need a little brushing up on timeless elegance? No worries, we did too. Here we’ve got you covered:
- Thank the giver for their gift. No matter how ugly that sweater is, find something about it that you can pretend to like, and write about it. If that simply isn’t possible, write about some way you’ll put it to use. Thank you so much for the adorable brown sweater! The color will make for a perfect match with many of my clothes.
- Thank the giver for their thoughtfulness. It’s amazing how you never fail to remember my birthday every year.
- Include a tidbit about your life and what you’ve been doing recently. This is especially important when thanking relatives. They love to hear about how you’re doing! This sweater will be a perfect addition to my packing list for the Nordic ski trip! We leave next week and I can’t wait to show it off to my friends.
- Ask the giver about something happening in their lives. How is Billy doing? I can’t wait to see you all this spring!
- Say thank you one more time. Thanks again for the thoughtful present.
- Time to wrap it up! Take your pick among “Love,” “Regards,” “Yours Truly,” or “Sincerely.”
So this holiday season, don’t wait until the last minute to quickly type up a mass message to send to all your friends and family in one rushed click. Taking the time to thank each friend and relative will not only brighten their day, but might lead to an even better holiday sweater next year!
Sincerely,
Clare Ling
