Tuesday was a big day in politics. In case you’re out of the loop, it was the day of the New Hampshire primary. I’m sure plenty of you don’t even know what this means, though. Well, the New Hampshire primary is one of the first primary elections nationwide. What does that mean? It means that whoever wins has to face off with Barack Obama in a judo cage death match in November with lightsabers! Just kidding. Essentially, the New Hampshire primary helps to determine who will be the Republican nominee for president. Usually, before the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary, there’s a wide field of candidates with a few potential front-runners. While the Iowa caucus helps narrow the field down to the top two or three, the New Hampshire primary generally shows which candidates are actually viable and which ones were just flukes.
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were the front-runners of the Iowa caucus with Romney in the lead by an infinitesimal margin. As for the New Hampshire primary?
Mr. Romney won with a massive 37.2% of votes, and Mr. Santorum came in with only 9.9%. Ron Paul placed second with 22.9%.
Those results may show that Mr. Santorum was merely a fluke of the caucus, while Mr. Romney and Mr. Paul are the top candidates heading into the rest of primary season.
