Boy asks Girl out. Girl says yes. They go on the date, and Boy asks, “What movie should we see?”
Scenario A: Girl picks first movie she sees, the movie is terrible, and they have an awful time. Boy and Girl break it off.
Scenario B: Girl has read this article and makes an informed decision. The movie is a hit with both Boy and Girl. Boy and Girl date throughout high school and eventually marry, and have 12 children. Which would you choose?
So what movies do students prefer to see on a date? Interviews of about a dozen students showed some trends.
The genre that most people preferred as the “best type” was comedy, with horror coming in at a close second. Why do students prefer comedic movies? The answers were quite generic~ like “because they are the best” or “they’re funny!” Senior Nate Carlson preferred horror movies because then “the girl will hold on to you!”
Guys were clear on the worst type of movies for a date: chick flicks and Sci-Fi movies. Why? Because neither the boy nor the date would enjoy it.
What do guys and girls think the other gender wants to watch on a date. Girls think guys mostly want to see action films, and guys think girls mostly want to see romantic or comedic movies.
Not all students follow the “norm.” Sophomore Sami Young confessed that she liked “the idea of a guy taking me to a chick flick and totally being okay with watching it.”
Another interviewee (male), who preferred to remain anonymous, commented on “The Notebook”. “I actually like that movie, but don’t tell anyone!”
Ladies, gents, if you need a little push in the right direction, here are the movies that interviewees liked best: “The Hangover”, “Despicable Me”, “UP”,” The Other Guys”, “Ghostbusters”,” Date Night” and “Friday the 13th”.
Now go out, create Scenario B and have a fantastic time doing it.
