This Monday morning marked the start of the 2023-24 school year at Edina High School. Freshmen entered the building for their first day of high school along with their seasoned upperclassmen peers. The day started off with the usual anxieties: navigating the school, securing a good spot on seating charts, and meeting new teachers and classmates. However, this was only heightened for the class of 2027. Emerson Nasstrom expressed her apprehension about high school after her first few periods of the day. “I knew it would be a lot of people, but once you get here…” Nasstrom said, as students flooded the hallway after first period.
Despite the first-day nerves, students of the ninth-grade class also expressed their excitement at the achievement of making it to the high school. From school traditions to other sports and activities, there is much to celebrate about the start of a new school year. “[I’m] really really excited for homecoming and football games,” Nasstrom said, or, as freshman Daniel DeMars said, “finding my classes in less than 15 minutes.”
Whether or not this year’s freshmen, or truly any grade, is ready for this school year, it has begun. To all students, new and returning, teachers and staff: Welcome back to EHS!
