Edina High School English teacher Jackie Roehl was awarded 2012 Teacher of the Year. On April 6th, a ceremony was held to crown the new winner in front of many co-workers, family and friends.
Mrs. Roehl was nominated by EHS co-worker Kari Burnside. Mrs. Burnside said that after the first couple of rounds, “I realized she really had a chance at winning.”
Mrs. Burnside also stated that Mrs. Roehl “is a leader and should be recognized for her efforts,” which is one of the reasons Mrs. Roehl won. As well as being respected by other EHS staff members, many of her students admire her for her ability to help all students no matter what their learning style is.
Senior Loic Attikossie said that Mrs. Roehl deserved to win because “her style of teaching is completely different and she talks about things that some people feel uncomfortable bringing up, but I think that’s really cool.“
As a result of her win, Mrs. Roehl gets to meet resident next year, travel the state to speak, and will receive thousands of dollars worth of technology for her classroom. She will also compete among fellow teachers of the year to win the coveted National Teacher of the Year Award. Congratulations Mrs. Roehl!
