Yes, it’s that time of year again. Edina High School’s boy’s varsity hockey team has advanced to the state tournament. If you want to know a little more about the team, read on.
#1 The Fortress: Willie Benjamin (11)
Benjamin, the team’s star goalie, has won over the hearts of the fan section with his consistent saves.
#4 The Sacrificial Lamb: Anthony Walsh (11)
Walsh, a forward, is currently leading in points for sections. However, what Walsh is most well-known for is his willingness to sacrifice himself for the team.
#5 Smash: Parker Reno (11)
Parker Reno has also been playing on varsity since his freshman year. A defenseman, Reno is willing to stand up for any of his teammates.
#6 The Wrath: Matt Nelson (11)
On the ice, nobody crosses defensemen Matt Nelson.
#11 God’s Gift: Louie Nanne (11)
Captain Louie Nanne, a forward, has been playing on varsity since his freshman year. Taking after his grandpa, Lou Nanne, Louie has played a crucial role in the success of the hornets.
#16 The Sick Celly: Connor Hurley (10)
Connor Hurley, a who formerly played for Holy Angels, is currently Edina’s leading scorer with 48 goals. Hurley likes to top his goals off with a “sick celly” to get the crowd going.
#18 The Mom: Nick Leer (12)
Captain Nick Leer, a forward is the “nice guy” on the team. His strong leadership and love for the team have earned him the nickname “Mama Leer”.
#20 The Baby Genius: Dylan Malmquist (9)
Dylan Malmquist, only a freshman, is currently the 2nd leading scorer of the team, with 44 goals so far this year.
