Some of Edina’s Own At Carnegie Hall
This January, three Edina High School students will travel to New York City to play at the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. Senior Alex Ogren on horn, senior Jack Halverson on bassoon, and junior Brian Mironer on percussion were all asked to try out by Band Director Paul Kile and were then accepted from a nationwide selection of hopefuls by the judges at Carnegie.
The audition process consisted of an etude and a performance portfolio with mp3’s of them playing different pieces. From Jan. 6-10, these three EHS Concert Band members will get to go sightseeing, see an evening Broadway show, and perform with some of the most talented youth at Carnegie Hall.
“I’m super excited to be going to Carnegie Hall. A few years ago, my family and I stopped by the building, and I jokingly thought to myself, ‘I’m gonna play there someday.’ I never thought it would actually happen,” said Mironer.
“I’m definitely most excited about working with the conductor Craig Kirchhoff. He conducts at the University of Minnesota, and I’ve played with him before, so I’m really excited to get the chance to work with him again,” said Halverson.
“I’m much more excited for performing than sightseeing. Sightseeing will be fun, but I’ll really be there to perform. I’m not really nervous about the performance right now, but you can bet I will be right before it,” said Ogren.
