Zephyrus: What does Black History Month mean to you?

Amy Ma: I don’t think it’s a secret to any of us that this community is largely white. As a person of color, that doesn’t make me hate you, but it makes me wary of you. Because white privilege is very real. When you’ve only known privilege your entire life, simple equality may feel like oppression. Yes, black history month does give African Americans special recognition, but racism is so deeply rooted that not doing so will only add to the unfair power distribution that currently exists.
