College Commitment Day
February 6, 2014
Yesterday, nine senior athletes officially committed to play Division 1 or Division 2 sports in college. Each athlete came up to the signing table with their parents, and signed a National Letter of Intent. Signing the letter is more than the verbal agreement many athletes make to schools, as it is officially binding and confirms with certainty that those athletes will play at that school. Before they signed, each athlete’s coach gave a speech about their experiences with that athlete.
I interviewed one of the athletes, senior Lindzy Fox, a lacrosse player who will be playing D2 at Tiffin University next fall. “I chose Tiffin because I like smaller schools, and it had good lacrosse program as well as good education and social aspects,” said Fox. Fox decided to choose D2 instead of D1. “I thought D1 would be a lot of commitment, and I wanted a college life along with playing the sport I love,” she remarked.
The full list of athletes that committed yesterday is as follows:
1. Jackie Pieper, Merrimack College (Hockey)
2. Lara Boman, University of South Dakota (Soccer)
3. Holley Berling, Winona State University (Soccer)
4. Lindzy Fox, Tiffin University (Lacrosse)
5. Kate Moreton, Davidson College (Swimming)
6. Colin Ritter, Augustana College (Football)
7. Tyler Nanne, Ohio State University (Hockey)
8. Ted Goltzman, Marquette University (Lacrosse)
9. Nick Mertes, University of Montana (Football)

What a once in a lifetime experience! So cool to think how hard these people worked to get to this point in their high school sport careers.

That’s really amazing that so many athletes committed from Edina! Zephyrus should write an article more in detail about how these students got to this point.
