Zephyrus: What does Black History Month mean to you?
Adrian Lampron: To me, Black History Month means a lot about trying to understand the history of black people in our country and people that we know now, today, and the problems that African Americans face in this country now. Because a lot of times, Black History Month is people looking at the past and saying “Look at all the things that people did wrong, and look at how far we’ve come,” but really, I think that there’s a lot of problems today that we still have to work on solving.
Zephyrus: Does Edina High School sufficiently recognize Black History Month?
A.L.: I think Edina High School does not really significantly recognize Black History Month. We spend a lot of time talking about it in small groups and some of my friends, we talk about it, but I don’t think the school is really doing anything. The administration’s not really doing anything that I can see that’s making a difference at all. I do know Black Student Union is having an event that I’m probably gonna go to next Wednesday, so I think that that’s a really cool thing that’s happening. But otherwise, I don’t think our school is really doing anything at a big level right now.
