Admin and StudCo plan Hoco

The traditional Homecoming dance has been added to the list of things canceled due to COVID-19. While Edina High School is not allowing the dance or the parade, the themed spirit days are still on the calendar. In addition to the spirit days, students will be able to view the coronation and football game live on the Edina Boosters website. There will be 250 seniors allowed to watch the coronation in person, but the method for choosing the students is still being determined. The majority of the school will have to attend virtually to see who is crowned homecoming king and queen. For EVA students and hybrid students at home on spirit days, the option to share spirit outfits on social media using the hashtag #EHSHoCo2020 is available and EHS will share them throughout the week.
The decision to cancel the dance and parade and move other events online was made by the administration as a method of reducing the spread of the virus. “EHS is following the guidelines and recommendations from the [Minnesota Department of Health] and [the Minnesota Department of Education]. Our goal is to continue to work towards full in-person learning at EHS,” Assistant Principal and Activities Director Troy Stein said. In order to keep the school spirit high, a pep fest video has been created. In addition, the school is promoting different options of showing school pride, such as yard signs.
There’s no question that this year’s homecoming festivities will feel different than in previous years, but the administration and Student Council have put in the effort to keep it similar while abiding by the new rules.
