Maggie Yuan
Maggie Yuan

Zephyrus: What activities are you involved in?

MAGGIE YUAN: I’m captain of the [Edina] Basketball team and a Student Senate Member. I’m also involved in Concert Band, DECA, a peer tutor, and I’m Latin Club president.

Z: What’s your dream house?

MY: Probably a lot of cats. Fun colors on my wall and a little garden too.

Z: If you could replace all the grass in the world with one thing, what would it be?

MY: Noodles because they’re my favorite food.

Z: Who’s your court crush?

MY: Pedro Pachecho.

Z: What does being on court mean to you?

MY: Being on court is an honor. Just knowing that all my peers selected me… I’m really happy to be on it.

Addie Botts
Addie Botts

Zephyrus: What activities are you involved in?

ADDIE BOTTS: I am a section leader in Marching Band, first chair euphonium in Concert Band, a Hornet Mentor, I went to Normandale so I am a Frenchie, and then outside of school I’m involved in Twin Cities Youth Rowing Club and I am a junior board member for Edina Girls Athletic Association.

Z: What do you dream about at night?

AB: On a good day I won’t dream at all. I’m a super hard sleeper so I usually just wake up with my alarm and it is bliss. I had this recurring dream when I was younger where I was walking down a hill with pavement with some people and there were street lamps. I think it was based off of the book “City of Embers,” if you remember reading that back in elementary school. More recently, if I do dream, I’ve been dreaming about food.

Z: What’s your favorite Costco food court item?

AB: If I’m going home with the family I will usually get the pepperoni pizza. Classic staple, would not have it any other way. If I’m walking around Costco and getting the samples just to cleanse my palette I’ll get the frozen yogurt. I don’t like any strawberries on top because, again, it’s to cleanse my palette. Once in a while, I’ll get a hot dog, but my mom and I have an inside joke about hot dogs from when I was younger.

Z: What’s your writing utensil of choice?

AB: I was really lazy starting senior year. I didn’t refill my pencil case so all my pencils and pens from junior year are still in there. All the pencils in my pencil case have no erasers and no lead, so definitely those are my go-to. Really living on the edge with that. I do like to color-coordinate my notes with highlighters and Paper Mate pens, though.

Z: What does being on court mean to you?

AB: Being on court means to me that I’ve made somewhat of an impact on the people around me. I’m really grateful that I’ve found a lot of connections with a lot of different people, whether through band or just school in general and sports. Really grateful for that. And being on court also provides a new platform to show that there’s not only one way to be on court and a lot of different people and a lot of different ways you can be on court and you’ll all be celebrated equally which is really exciting.

Z: What has been your favorite memory from high school?

CB: That’s tricky, I mean some of the football games are super fun, just like hanging out with people… I remember my Homecoming freshman year I sat next to a whole bunch of people and they became some of my best friends.

Z: What’s your biggest pet peeve?

CB: When people walk obnoxiously slow in the hallway and take up the like, the whole width of the hallway. I can’t do that.

Z: What’s your most unpopular opinion?

CB: Running to your cars after school is embarrassing, and you don’t get out that much quicker. I walk every day, and I get out so quickly.

Z: What does being on court mean to you?

CB: It’s super exciting. I think it means that we get to show off our school spirit and represent Edina in a good, fun, positive way.

I’m also in Edina choir.

Z: When did you feel the most proud of yourself?

Z: If you were given 60 seconds with an unlimited amount of money, what would you do?

GD: Okay, I would probably invest because then I can put as much money as I can in the bank if they’ll let me register it in time.

Z: If you could travel back in time, where would you go?

GD: I guess people really hype up the early 90s and early 2000s so I feel like that’s the point of early modern era technology and trends and whatnot that I’d be somewhat interested in.

Z: What does being on court mean to you?

GD: It means quite a lot to me because I absolutely did not expect to be nominated at all. I feel like I am here for a reason because I represent someone who’s normally not seen, because I really like supporting those around me. I like helping everyone out if they need it, even when I have my own work to do. I’m involved in a lot of choir and theater, and I feel that I wouldn’t be like the average person you would see on court. So while I feel a little out of place, I can somewhat see why people wanted to see me.
