Zephyrus: What does Black History Month mean to you?

Alisha Collier: To me, Black History Month is a time where we can again be reminded of the amazing things black people have done to improve our world in every aspect there is, because it is constantly forgotten. Also being a black female, it’s very relieving to know that even back then when racism was a more severe problem than it is now, they managed to be extremely strong and accomplish their goals and made the world a better place for us, which is a goal I have for myself.

Z: Does EHS sufficiently recognize Black History Month?

A.C.: I mean they could probably do a better job, for example they could elaborate on more inspirational black leaders other than Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Frederick Douglas, Harriet Tubman and Malcolm X because there are so many more impactful people other than just them. But other than that they’re doing well.
